Nuvia has helped thousands of patients get permanent teeth in 24 hours. For most of them, it's life-changing. But not every patient experience is perfect, and ignoring the complaints that show up in reviews doesn't serve anyone — least of all the people still trying to decide whether this is the right choice for them.

This page addresses the most commonly recurring complaints directly. Not to dismiss them, and not to spin them — but because understanding where friction occurs is the most useful thing we can offer someone doing their research.

"The consultation wasn't what I expected"

This is one complaint that isn’t too frequent but as always, it’s worth investigating.

The initial consultation at Nuvia is designed around two things: figuring out whether you're a clinical candidate, and — if you are — walking through what the process and cost actually look like.

That second part involves a financial coordinator, financing options, and a conversation about monthly payments. For patients who came in just expecting a clinical exam with a doctor, that structure can be confusing.

Knowing this in advance changes the experience. If you book a consultation, expect that a meaningful portion of it will cover cost and financing. That's not incidental — it's how Nuvia helps patients understand whether this is realistic for their situation before they go further.

The clinical evaluation happens, but the consultation isn't structured the way a visit to your general dentist is.

"I traveled hours to be told within minutes that I wasn't a candidate."

This complaint surfaces occasionally in reviews, and the frustration behind it is legitimate. Patients disclose medical history on the phone, make the drive, and then hear something in person that seems like it should have been caught earlier.

Some disqualifying factors — certain medications, uncontrolled health conditions, bone loss beyond what imaging can predict remotely — can't be fully assessed until Nuvia has eyes on you, a CT scan, and a complete picture.

Phone screening catches a lot, but it can't catch everything. That's a genuine limitation of the pre-screening process, not a deliberate oversight. Nuvia’s team is also constantly training to improve the pre-screening process so patients don’t feel like they’re wasting their time.

What helps: ask specific questions on the phone about what conditions or circumstances would disqualify you before making a long trip. The more detailed your health disclosure upfront, the better the screening can work.

"I didn't feel like I had enough time with the clinical staff."

A doctor is involved in every Nuvia case — CT scans are always reviewed clinically, and the treatment plan is built by the medical team. Most patients do meet with a doctor during their consultation visit.

Where this complaint comes from is pacing. The initial visit covers imaging, clinical review, and financial planning, and for some patients the time spent directly with a clinician feels brief compared to the time they spend with a smile consultant. The consultation is designed to establish candidacy and cost; deeper clinical conversations typically happen further into the process.

If you have specific medical questions you want addressed upfront, come with them written down and ask specifically for time with a doctor.

"I had pain, swelling, or issues after surgery that I wasn't prepared for."

Full-mouth dental implant surgery is major surgery. Recovery involves swelling, bruising, soreness, and in some cases numbness — and for patients who weren't given a clear picture of what normal recovery looks like, these symptoms can feel alarming.

That being said, your medical team wants you to be as comfortable as possible and will make sure you’re equipped with tips, aftercare instructions, and when needed, pain management prescriptions.

Rarely, issues with your new teeth — adjustments needed, fit concerns, in rare cases breakage — can occur. Zirconia is durable, but no dental restoration is unconditionally immune to complications. But rest assured, your team is there to help to make sure you are happy and comfortable with your new smile.

The complaints in this category most often trace back to what expectations were set, not the surgery itself. Patients who were told specifically what to expect, what falls within normal range, and what genuinely warrants a call tend to come through recovery far more smoothly than those who weren't.

"I felt lost after surgery. There wasn't enough follow-up or support."

The 24-hour model moves fast, and some patients feel like the support structure doesn't keep pace once they go home. Questions about cleaning, what to eat, what symptoms to monitor, and how to reach someone when concerns come up — these matter enormously in the weeks after surgery.

Where this complaint tends to appear, it points to gaps in the handoff between the surgical experience and the recovery phase. Patients who know exactly what to expect, who to contact, and when their next touchpoint is feel supported. Those who don't, don't.

Every Nuvia patient is provided access to an exclusive support group of over 143k patients to ask questions. Not only are patients able to get advice and support from thousands of patients with shared experiences, the group administration will always make an effort to get patients in contact with the right person if staff is reached out to online.

Nuvia Complaints Are Rare, But Taken Seriously

Complaints are data. The ones that recur most often point to real gaps — primarily in how expectations are set before, during, and after the process. We are committed to improvement and take patient feedback seriously.

For every complaint, there are thousands of patients who describe the experience as life-changing. Nuvia has earned over 70,000 five-star reviews — and a commitment to addressing the cases that didn't go that way.

If you've had an experience with Nuvia — good or difficult — the most useful thing you can do is share it. Reviews that are specific and honest help future patients make better decisions, and they push providers to do better.
